What The Space Is
The Space is a diy studio for grownups who have ideas bigger than their living room.
We’re a fully stocked creative workshop with tools, workspace, supplies, and safety guidance for all kinds of makers—whether you're building a bookshelf, throwing paint, or just figuring out what lights you up.
This isn’t a class-based studio or a coworking space. It’s a place to explore, experiment, and make things that matter to you.
Why It Exists
Because too many creative people give up before they start—held back by lack of space, tools, knowledge, or confidence.
Because making things with your hands can reconnect you to yourself.
Because some of the best ideas start in a mess and end in glitter.
We exist to remove barriers, say yes to bold ideas, and give people a place to try.
We’re here for seasoned artists, recovering perfectionists, curious late bloomers, and anyone who wants to make something that didn’t exist yesterday.
Who’s Behind It
I’m Ashleen—founder, chaos wrangler, and walking blend of big vision and tiny Post-its.
I’ve been dreaming about The Space for years because I needed it long before it existed. I wanted to create—but I didn’t feel like I was “really” an artist. I didn’t have room at home to try new things, and I wasn’t sure where someone like me fit in.
The Space is what I wish I’d found: A place where grownups can learn, build, mess up, and try again—without shame, pressure, or needing permission.
This is a family-powered operation, which means:
My husband Ben brings McGyver-level problem-solving skills, lifts heavy things, and keeps the woodshop running
Our son Sam gets bribed to clean in exchange for V-Bucks (or whatever fuels his next pair of Nikes)
They didn’t exactly sign up for this life, but here we are—and I wouldn’t have it any other way.
We’re also lucky to have some ride-or-die volunteers—huge shoutout to Nikki and the other early believers showing up to help build something bigger than all of us.
Studio Manager / Rockstar in Residence
We’re bringing in a Studio Manager—our resident fixer, encourager, and chaos-tamer. They’ll be part safety lead, part tool wrangler, part creative hype squad.
They’ll help us keep The Space safe, stocked, supported, and running strong.
